To minister to those in our parish
community who are divorced, we need parish education,
an atmosphere of openness, willingness to provide
support through individual concern and group efforts.
Divorcing and hurting people come to the Church deserving
to be made whole again with a generous love that
offers healing - the healing that comes through a
shared experience of life. Providing compassionate,
safe environments for them is doing what Jesus did.
We are compassionate when we are in solidarity with
one another; when we voluntarily put ourselves in
another's place; and when through faith we follow
Christ, who was God's tangible witness to God's compassionate
love for all people.
Support Groups
Those who have themselves experienced
divorce can offer understanding and hope through
a network of peer support. A program "Divorce ….Time
to Heal" is offered through the Office
of Life and Family. This program is designed to help
people through the process of divorce, a process
which neither begins nor ends in the courtroom. The
goal of the program is to provide support and guide
the participants to find the positive and healthy
ways to deal with the many emotions they are experiencing.
Programs are scheduled each year in regions of the
archdiocese. The office provides training and support
for parishes wishing to begin a support program.
